Description
The Glen , Lochranza is a unique property of enormous character and quality built in the 1800’s it was purchased by the current owner's family in 1989 as a summer retreat and has continued to be enjoyed in a similar vein up until the present time. Originally part of the Arran Estate The Glen has an enviable location nestled against a grassy hillside within its own grounds but surrounded by open fields and the most outstanding scenery, there are no other no visible properties in the area, making this a quite unique home . The property comprises a main three bedroom cottage with two attached outbuildings, detached Bothy in need of renovation and a detached former kennel building.

Lochranza can be found to the North of Arran. A very beautiful area famous for it’s Golden Eagles and over friendly Red Deer roaming freely. The village is home for the Award winning Distillery and picturesque Lochranza Castle. Caladonia McBrane run a daily service to the mainland from a small slipway in the village . There are several places to eat out, Hotels, Golf Course and a popular campsite. There is also a busy community hall that has multi purpose use for the community all year round.

The Glen sits in a private and sheltered position and is approached directly offthe main public road to Lochranza. The private road sweeps down to the foot of a burn where there is parking . Access to the property is over a small burn, accessible by most vehicles and along a well established track over a timber bridge where there is further parking. A very attractive traditionalone and half storey cottage constructed under a pitched slate roofand rendered stone walls, painted white with contrasting window and door surrounds. The overhanging eaves and dormer windows add to the overall character of this attractive period house. Internally , whilst been sympathetically upgraded, the property has kept much of the cottages original features such as timber doors with original lock latches , deep window sills and open fires. Heating is via electric storage heaters and the property has been double glazed.

The cottage is arranged over two storeys and comprises ample space for entertaining combined with the practicalities needed for a family home. Accommodation comprises of a very sociable open plan kitchen /living area, the kitchen area has a good range of wall and base units, timber worktops and tiled splash backs. Plumbed for washing machine and dishwasher. Light floods this area through velux skylight windows and two windows at either end of the kitchen . Lots of space for a family dining table and a comfortable lounge which has a focal point open fire. Practical and attractive tiled flooring throughout.

From the lounge a central hallway provides access to the ground floor bathroom and master bedroom. The bathroom has a three piece white suite with part tiled walls and electric shower over the bath. Heated towel rail. Wash hand basin and low flush WC.

The ground floor bedroom is a spacious apartment with stripped timber floors and an open fire set in a timber surround. Windows to both front and rear. The internal hallway leads to the front porch with direct access to the front garden. Access to the first floor via a dog legged staircase.

On the first floor are two bedrooms of similar size, both having a dormer window to both front and rear. In the space between the two bedrooms are a useful walk in cupboard and on the opposite side of the landing , a WC with low flush toilet and wash hand basin.

Adjacent to the house is an attractive range of traditional stone and slate buildings comprising a former Bothy, byre /workshop, kennel, and old piggery. Some of the buildings are in need of repair but may offer conversion for alternative uses such as holiday accommodation, subject to obtaining the necessary consents.

There are two out buildings attached to the main house , The Byre is a useful store with access to a loft area. The piggery is a stone built enclosure with access to an attached outbuilding. Both have power supply.

The Bothy is a small detached building, it was a game keeper dwelling , uninhabitable at present but with great potential .The area comprises a main room with stove and original pine cladding to the walls, kitchen off with a mezzanine bedroom above. A shower room with WC is located on the ground floor. Services are connected to The Bothy however a total upgrade will be required to make it habitable.

The former kennels are again part of the history of this house and are reminiscent of a past country life. Used for storage at present . Two separate kennels with outdoor runs.

Services to The Glen are private , having a bountiful supply of water from the nearby burn and a septic tank provides for waste water . Electric is mains supply .

What our clients say

Start to finish he was absolutely excellent

Just wanted to briefly record our thanks having used Harry to sell our property in Elgin.

From start to finish he was absolutely excellent. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

The photos and property description he did were both spot on and involved him in a lot of extra work, moving furniture around etc to get the presentation as good as possible.

Overall, Harry and his team went overboard to make things easy for us as we were not in Elgin during the sale process. This involved all sorts of extras one would not expect from your typical Estate Agent.

Nice to find such good old fashioned customer service in this cut price, anything’s good enough age!

We would have no hesitation in recommending Harry as first choice to anyone selling a property in his area and wish him continued success in the future.
